A man jumped off the 10th Avenue Bridge to his death Thursday morning.
At least three witnesses on the bridge said they saw the man sitting on the edge of the railing, push his body off the ledge and fall just before 9 a.m., according to the police documents.
One witness said he walked past the man, who was pacing and “hesitating.” The witness turned back and saw the man sitting on the rail.
University police and Minneapolis Park police responded to one of the witness’s calls minutes later. Police believe the death was a suicide and won’t be investigating further, University police Lt. Troy Buhta said.
The man, 54, landed on hard dirt about 100 feet from the water on the east side of the Mississippi River. The man’s briefcase found on the bridge indicated he worked at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Buhta said police do not believe the man was a University of Minnesota student.
