The Western Collegiate Hockey Association named Jody Horak the WCHA Defensive and Player of the Week and Krissy Wendell the WCHA Rookie of the Week for their performances against Ohio State University.
Horak gained her second shutout of the year and sixth of her career in the first game of the series against Ohio State. The Buckeyes outshot the Gophers 26-25, with Horak stopping all 26 shots in the 4-0 shutout. Of the 26 shots, 11 were power-play shots on goal.
For the second week in a row, Wendell has been named the conference’s rookie of the week. Wendell scored the game-winning goal both nights in the series sweep over Ohio State.
Wendell was involved in four of the team’s six goals last weekend and had a plus/minus rating of +4. In Friday’s game, Wendell earned two goals on three shots.
Robeck, Anderson honored
ophomore Martin Robeck and junior Krista Anderson have been named Big Ten Runners of the Week. It is the second time that a runner has received the award for both the men’s and women’s teams this season.
Robeck earned the honor by winning the Marathon Sports Run with a time of 15:59.2 while Anderson won the Minnesota Open in 19:22.2.
This was the second consecutive week that a Gophers men’s runner won the award after junior Andrew Carlson claimed it last week. Earlier in the year, junior Darja Vasiljeva earned the distinction after winning the Iowa State Invitational.
