In the late 1980s, I began writing columns for my small town Wisconsin high school newspaper. After numerous encounters with my local school board regarding subversive, revolutionary statements in my columns, e.g., “…Football pep-rallies are an exercise in proto-fascism…”, I became disillusioned. After explaining the term “proto-fascism” to the school board, I walked away from the printed word. Now, after years in hibernation, I am ready to take the suggestion of my old school board president seriously and “…become a monkey on the back of some other education institution.”
My column runs every other Friday.
