The grandson of Gophers’ hockey legend Lou Nanne has committed to play college hockey for the University of Minnesota.
Edina junior Louie Nanne will carry on the tradition of skating for the Gophers since his grandfather enrolled at the University in 1960. Louie’s father Marty also played hockey for the Gophers.
Louie scored 13 goals, 16 assists to rack up 27 points last year as a sophomore for his Edina Hornets. He spent this past summer playing for the Under-18 U.S. National Team at the Ivan Hlinka Invitational Tournament in Slovakia.
Lou would spend all of his career in Minnesota: graduating from the University to play for the Minnesota North Stars and would eventually serve as their general manager. Lou also played alongside “Miracle on Ice” coach Herb Brooks with the 1968 U.S. Olympic hockey team.
