Big Tobacco uses many strategies to target young adults in hopes they’ll become lifetime customers. Thanks to Minnesota state Sen. Kari Dziedzic, who represents the campus area, one of their favorite strategies may be going away.
Currently, little cigars, which are almost indistinguishable from cigarettes and just as deadly, are taxed at a lower rate than cigarettes, making them cheaper and more appealing to kids. Dziedzic’s bill would change this by making sure these products are priced the same way as cigarettes to help keep them out of kids’ hands.
I’m proud of our state lawmakers coming together for this bipartisan effort of putting kids’ health before politics.
