After opening the season with a 4-1 showing at the JU Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., the Minnesota softball team is heading to Norman, Okla., for six games at the OU/Nike Classic this weekend.

The Gophers open the tournament today against Northwestern State (Louisiana) at 10 a.m. Their next game is against No. 12 Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m.

Minnesota will take on Birmingham Southern at 10 a.m. on Saturday and then the Sooners at 2:30 p.m. The Gophers’ final two games take place Sunday against Birmingham Southern at 10 a.m. and Northwestern State at 12:15 p.m.

Tennis teams in action

The men’s tennis team opens the Big Ten season against Michigan State at 12 p.m. on Saturday in East Lansing, Mich.

Minnesota is coming off a weekend in which it beat No. 13 Virginia Commonwealth and lost to No. 26 Wake Forest.

The women’s tennis team plays host to both Louisville and Denver this weekend.

The Gophers take on Louisville today at 5 p.m. and face Denver at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Both matches are at the Baseline Tennis Center.

Track and field at home

The men’s track and field team hosts the Snowshoe Open today at 5 p.m. at the University Field House, while the women’s track team hosts the Parents’ Day Open on Saturday.

Both teams will head to the Big Ten Indoor Championships Feb. 24-25. The men’s event will be held in Bloomington, Ind., while the women’s event is in Champaign, Ill.
