SOCHI, Russia (AP) âÄî An election official says partial results point to a big victory for the candidate from Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s party in Sunday’s mayoral vote in 2014 Olympic host city Sochi. A liberal opposition candidate has branded the election in the Black Sea resort city a fraud. Sochi Election Commission secretary Valentina Tkacheva said that a count of ballots from 10 percent of electoral districts gave acting Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov more than 79 percent of the vote. Pakhomov was nominated by Putin’s United Russia party. Kremlin critic Boris Nemtsov accused government officials of using their clout to silence other candidates and guarantee a convincing win for Pakhomov. The mayor elected Sunday would still be in office when the 2014 Winter Games begin.
