The Minnesota football team placed 12 members on the 2000 all-Big Ten conference teams, voted on by coaches and media.
Seniors Karon Riley and Ben Hamilton, as well as juniors Ron Johnson and Willie Middlebrooks, all received first-team honors.
Kicker Dan Nystrom made the second-team offense in the coaches poll. John Schlecht, Sean Hoffman and Preston Grueining all made second team defense. Adam Haayer, Tellis Redmon and Greg White were all honorable mention selections.
On the media side, Ben Mezera was also a honorable mention choice.
Women’s Basketball
The Minnesota women’s basketball team heads to a tournament at Kansas University in Lawrence this weekend.
The Gophers will face St. John’s in the opener, with host Kansas facing off against Eastern Illinois in the other semifinal. The championship game is Saturday at 2 p.m.
Center Kim Prince was named to the all-tournament team in Cancun after averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 boards in the tournament.
Wrestling
The Gophers wrestling team will send its non-starters to the UNI open at the University of Northern Iowa over the weekend.
Approximately 300 grapplers from around the Midwest are expected to participate, including wrestlers from Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, Illinois and Purdue.
Last year Garret Lowney and Damion Hahn won titles at the tournament.
