The 1701 building changed significantly over spring break. The former classroom building is nearly demolished and crews are continuing to remove construction debris this week.
Hammer drvien pile operations are scheduled to continue along the south side of the C51 parking lot, 17th Ave. SE, and 4th Street SE said Kevin Swanson, the project's manager. The piles are a part of the earth retention system – which are used for support where excavations are made or slope stability is compromised – and should be completed by the end of the week.
On Thursday the installation of drilled piles will start between the 1711 University property as well as the 317 18th Ave. property and on Friday asphalt from the parking lot behind the building will begin to be removed, Swanson said.
The project expected to be completed next summer has reduced the width of 17th Ave. SE and has altered the south sidewalk along 4th Street SE. There are multiple gates on site where deliveries are being made. Most deliveries will occur off of 18th Ave., Swanson said.
