For those who don’t yet know it, Minneapolis is home to one of the top modern art museums in the world, dedicated as much to the classical spirit of modernism (Dadaism and Fluxus will ever have a home at the Walker, which sometimes seems like the only place on earth that still takes Yoko Ono seriously as an artist) as to contemporary innovation. At the time of this writing, the Guthrie’s shows include a retrospective of hip hop and a collection of photographs by Iranian-born Shirin Neshat, and neither exhibition could be timelier. Look to the Walker for some of the most challenging touring shows to play the Twin Cities, and take the elevator to their top floor for a light afternoon lunch with an impressive view of downtown Minneapolis.
