Raymond Duvall will take over James Parente's post as College of Liberal Arts Dean beginning July 1.
Duvall is currently the chair of the political science department and will serve as CLA Dean until a replacement is found. He has been at the University of Minnesota since 1976.
A 20-member search committee met last week to begin discussion about finding Parente's permanent replacement, Provost Karen Hansen said in a statement announcing Duvall's appointment.
Parente, who announced his stepping down last March, will return to teaching after 13 years as an administrator.
