As one of the very few home-owner residents in the Dinkytown area of the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood, I am pleased to write to say thank you to the University of Minnesota student volunteers who came to this area Sunday to do some clean up. Five members of Sigma Nu fraternity and eight members from the Asian Fraternity Interest Group (AFIG) cleaned graffiti off the tops of boulevard litter containers, emptied litter containers on 8th Street S.E. and collected several bags of trash from boulevards and streets. It is efforts such as the Ultimate Volunteer Experience and the chance to interact with young people in this positive way that make living in a University neighborhood a good experience for me.
