After two weeks of intense competition, the 2020 Jeopardy! College Championship has crowned its winner —Nibir Sarma, a sophomore chemical engineering major, came out on top after the two-day finale to Jeopardy!’s collegiate tournament and walked away with the grand prize of 100,000.
While shot in February, the final episode of the competition aired today as Sarma went up against Xiaoke Ying from the University of Southern California, and Tyler Combs, from Indiana University.
Sarma finished day one of the two-part finals leading with $22,195, with his nearest opponent at $800. He was able to hold this lead on day two, by clinching multiple daily doubles and final jeopardy questions.
In just over 30 years of the championship, Sarma is the first student from the University of Minnesota to make the finals, let alone win it all.
