Minnesota’s softball team won all four of its games this weekend, beating both Concordia-St. Paul and the University of Wisconsin-Superior twice.
Friday, the Gophers won the first game at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium 9-2 thanks to a strong performance by senior infielder Katie Meyer who had two doubles and four RBIs.
In the second game, Minnesota blanked the Golden Bears 10-0 in five innings. Sophomore pitcher Briana Hassett gave up one hit and struck out 10.
Sunday saw continued Gophers dominance as Minnesota won 4-1 and 8-0.
In the first game, senior pitcher Rene Konderik struck out eight batters and senior infielder Lisa Parks was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Hassett had another dominating performance in the second game,
giving up only two hits while striking out 11.
Wrestling ranked No. 1
Minnesota’s wrestling team was ranked No. 1 according to the preseason all-division collegiate rankings recently released at revwrestling.com.
The poll features 10 Big Ten teams in the top 25. The defending national champion, Oklahoma State, whom the Gophers finished second to last season, ranked second on the poll.
Minnesota returns four All-Americans this season; Roger Kish (184) and Mack Reiter (133), and defending national champions Dustin Schlatter (149) and Cole Konrad (HWT).
Women’s golf ties for 11th
The women’s golf team tied for 11th at the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C., this weekend.
Minnesota fired a 103-over par 967 in the 54-hole tournament, finishing 55 shots behind tournament winner Northwestern.
Junior Kelli Berns led the Gophers with 19-over par 235 to tie for 20th.
