A seventh defendant was sentenced in connection with the April 12 Dinkytown riot, Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar announced Tuesday.
Nicholas Steven Chelbeck, 19, of Lake Elmo pleaded guilty last month to trying to set a car on fire. The car had been pushed on its side, with gasoline pouring on the ground. Chelbeck said he threw a burning object into the gasoline, but it did not start on fire, according to a press release from the county attorney’s office. The car was near 15th Avenue Southeast and Fourth Street Southeast.
Hennepin County District Judge Lucy Wieland sentenced Chelbeck to 90 days in the workhouse and three years probation. Chelbeck also must write letters of apology to the victim and the University and pay $500 to the Minnesota Crime Victims Reparations Board.
Six other individuals have already been sentenced for felonies connected with the riot.
