You can hear the passion in Bill TramelâÄôs voice when he talks about the Gopher menâÄôs swimming and diving team. Head coach Dennis Dale announced Monday that he was promoting Tramel, who has been with the team since the 2004-05 season, to the position of associate head coach. âÄúDennis and I work awesome together,âÄù Tramel said. âÄúWe see eye to eye on almost every issue.âÄù âÄúâĦWhen youâÄôve got a partnership like that, [there are] no egos pulling the team in two different directions. ThereâÄôs one giant ego pulling the team in the direction we both want to take it.âÄù Tramel is in charge of the teamâÄôs recruiting efforts, and coaches the middle-distance and distance swimmers. He recruited 50 m freestyle school record-holder Michael Richards, and has signed players from countries including Serbia, Ireland, Croatia and Canada. Tramel coached for nine years at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and has also coached at the University of Georgia, the University of South Carolina. Tramel said he began his coaching career as a student-assistant at the University of Missouri, his alma mater. âÄúIâÄôve gotten a lot of good guidance throughout the years,âÄù Tramel said. âÄúâĦWeâÄôve got a number of people from countries that donâÄôt have the resources to provide for their top swimmers. They donâÄôt have trainers, they donâÄôt have equipment for that matter.âÄù
