Gophers track runner Liz Roehrig has the chance to make history this weekend.
The senior can do something no other Minnesota athlete in any sport has ever done: Win four consecutive Big Ten titles.
Reohrig is going for her fourth pentathlon title. The senior set a school record in last year’s Big Ten tournament when she scored 4,177 points.
The Big Ten indoor track championships will be hosted by the Gophers this year, held Saturday and Sunday at the University Fieldhouse.
The team won the Big Ten title last season, but this year will be tougher as the Big Ten is one of the top conferences in the nation.
Along with the Gophers, ranked seventh in the nation, there are two other teams ranked in the top 10: No. 5 Michigan and No. 8 Penn State.
The meet will be aired on tape delay on the Big Ten Network.
The men’s team will be traveling to Madison, Wis., for the Big Ten Championships.
The team will be led by junior sprinter Ibrahim Kabia, who was named the Big Ten track athlete of the week after his performance at the Snowshoe Open, hosted by the Gophers last weekend.
