The University of Minnesota Police Department kept busy over homecoming this year, but “nothing on a major scale” occurred, Deputy Chief Chuck Miner said.

UMPD deployed extra officers over the weekend, he said, focusing on homecoming activities like the parade, concert and football game.

Extra squad cars also focused on recent robbery patterns in neighborhoods near campus. There were no robberies reported to UMPD.

Miner said officers detoxed and hospitalized about a dozen
attendees at the homecoming concert.

“There was a lot of severely intoxicated people there,” he said. “A common report was of somebody passed out in a
restroom.”

The next day’s football game was “fairly quiet,” Miner said, with the police ejecting a half-dozen people — the same number of incidents as at last year’s homecoming game.

The weekend’s reports were mostly alcohol-related, Miner said. There were at least five instances of underage drinking, three of possession of alcohol by a minor, two of disorderly conduct and one public consumption, according to University police reports.

“It was stuff you would expect for homecoming weekend,” he said.

Domestic assault

A woman is pressing charges against her ex-boyfriend for fifth-degree domestic assault after an incident in Marcy-Holmes on Wednesday, according to a Minneapolis
police report.

The woman had bruises on her upper arms following the incident and
refused medical attention, the report said.
