Minnesota didn’t have a permanent home stadium last year. It did this year, though, and it will play the last of its home games this weekend.

The Gophers (27-20) will host Penn State in a three-game set. Saturday’s game will be played at Target Field, but both Friday and Sunday’s games are at the Metrodome.

Minnesota is relatively familiar with Target Field. The Gophers played 12 games there a year ago in wake of the Metrodome’s December 2010 roof collapse.

The Gophers are coming off an emotional win over St. Thomas at Siebert Field, the last game ever at the historic ballpark.

After the game, head coach John Anderson said it’s important that the club focuses on the last three weekends of conference play.

In its last Big Ten series, Minnesota won two of three against Iowa.

The Nittany Lions’ team batting average (.251) ranks last in the conference.

Meanwhile, the Gophers are second in the conference in ERA. Their 9-6 record is second in the conference as well.

 “We really want to get that second seed so we can get a bye in the tournament,” pitcher TJ Oakes said. “That really helps the pitching staff.”
