University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler will join Gov. Mark DaytonâÄôs Job Summit to address job creation, innovation and research today.

His speech, âÄúInnovation, Research, Jobs: A Call to Action,âÄù will focus on the UniversityâÄôs role in state economics and the UniversityâÄôs technology transfer program.

Since taking office in July, Kaler has campaigned across the state, reaching out to businesses and investors to promote the UniversityâÄôs image as a job-creating institution in response to dwindling state support. A website launched by the University cites that the schoolâÄôs research supports 16,193 jobs annually.

KalerâÄôs speech will also touch on the schoolâÄôs increased enrollment rates among science, technology, engineering, math and nursing majors, said University spokesman Jeff Falk.

The summit will be at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul at 7 a.m. Kaler is scheduled to speak from 11:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Dayton will give closing remarks at 4:30 p.m.
