The Gophers home opener will have to wait another day.
Minnesota’s first game at Siebert Field against Augsburg was postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday at 3 p.m., the team announced Monday afternoon.
The Gophers opened their season with 20 consecutive away games, waiting for the Minnesota weather to warm up before using their outdoor
stadium.
Head coach John Anderson said after the team’s game against Maryland on Sunday the team would likely be forced to practice inside for another week because of weather conditions.
Anderson is ready for his team to start playing and practicing outdoors on its own field, though.
“Some quality practice time is what we really need,” Anderson said Sunday.
The 20 consecutive games on the road have become a bit of the grind for the Gophers, but the team has 18 of its next 24 games scheduled at home.
“Yeah, [being on the road] gets old, definitely,” Anderson said Sunday. “No question about it.”
