An 18-year-old Minneapolis student was killed near the corner of 6th Street and Cedar Avenue, approximately three blocks from the southwestern corner of the West Bank campus.

“His life was cut short by this senseless shooting,” Omar Jamal, a Somali community leader, said. He said victim Abdullahi Awil Abdi was a college-bound kid who attended the alternative, Somali-oriented Volunteers of America Education Center.

“He was not, in any shape or form, affiliated with any gang members,” Jamal said.
