Mankato police put the kibosh on a back to school bash a few blocks from the Minnesota State University-Mankato campus last weekend and issued 127 underage consumption tickets. According to the Star Tribune, “Department of Public Safety Commander Matt DuRose says he hopes the bust will set the tone for the next semester, namely that his department will have a zero tolerance approach.” The University of Minnesota Police Department had a relatively quiet weekend, Deputy Chief Chuck Miner said. 127 tickets in one weekend is an unusually high number, he said, and the University area hasn’t seen any incidents like that in recent memory. UMPD issued a total of 6 minor consumption citations over the holiday weekend at two different incidents, he said.
