The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified Abdurahman Warfa, 27, as the victim of a stabbing Monday night in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood.
Warfa died in his apartment at 512 S. Cedar Ave. –– one building down from Palmer’s Bar –– after being stabbed in his left shoulder. Police and paramedics tried to save him, but he died at the scene at about 10:30 p.m.
This is first homicide in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood this year, Minneapolis police Sgt. Steve McCarty said.
Police arrested Abdirahim Jama at the scene and booked him at Hennepin County Jail. He is being charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
According to the court complaint, a witness, who was in the apartment at the time of the crime, told the police Jama and Warfa were in an argument about Warfa’s girlfriend when Jama walked over to the kitchen and grabbed a knife.
The complaint stated the witness tried to stop Jama with the help of another witness as Jama walked toward Warfa with the knife. But Jama freed himself.
He stabbed Warfa in the left side of the neck, the complaint said. Warfa head-butted Jama, who fell to the floor. Warfa then punched him in the face several times and also fell, according to the complaint.
When the police arrived, Jama claimed he stabbed Warfa after Warfa attacked him.
The case is still under investigation.
