An elderly man was hit by a car near the University of Minnesota campus Saturday night. John Vershoor, 62, was walking in the road on Fourth Street Southeast near 11th Avenue when he was struck, according to University police. Vershoor appeared fine at first, but he then suffered an apparent heart attack, University police Sgt. David Wilske said. He was taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center. As of 2 p.m. Monday, Vershoor was in a “critical but stable” condition, an HCMC spokesperson said. The police call came in at 6:21 p.m. Squad cars blocked traffic from the area and police taped off the area of the incident. Check mndaily.com for more.
