DFL lieutenant governor candidate Julie Sabo spoke to a University political science class Monday about this year’s elections and her decision to enter politics.

“I went into the state Senate because of my experience teaching in north Minneapolis,” Sabo said. “That’s really what motivated me to run.”

Sabo is the daughter of Democratic U.S. Rep. Martin Sabo, from Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.

Before becoming Democratic gubernatorial candidate Roger Moe’s running mate, she represented West Bank neighborhoods and part of south Minneapolis in the state Senate.

Political science professor James Druckman said the Sabo campaign contacted him about speaking to his Campaign 2002 freshman seminar.

Druckman said he discussed with students whether they would object to having only one party’s candidate speak, but he said the students wanted Sabo to address the class.
