Former Minnesota men’s golfer Wilhelm Schauman earned a spot in the 2005 British Open last weekend by making a 6-foot putt on the second playoff hole at the Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J.
Schauman, who graduated in 2003, beat out such notables as Corey Pavin (USA) and Richard Johnson (Sweden) to earn one of the final two spots along with Richard Barcelo (USA).
Schauman has earned approximately $5,000 on the tour this season, which ranks 99th on the Hooters Tour money list.
The British Open, one of the four major championships in professional golf, will be held July 14-17 at St. Andrews in Scotland.
