The Gophers women’s golf team kicked off the fall portion of its season with a seventh-place showing at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich.
Junior Banchalee Theinthong (74-74-77—225) and sophomore Carmen Laguna (75-74-76—225) each finished tied for 18th. Jackie Shepherd tied for 39th, Sarinee Thitiratanakorn tied for 46th and Anna Laorr tied for 70th.
Purdue shot 875 over three rounds to win the 17-team invitational. Texas State’s Krista Puisite fired a 215 and won it individually. The event was held at the par-72 Forest Akers West Golf Course.
“I feel like we started out really well. I didn’t particularly feel like we finished very well,” head coach Michele Redman said.
Redman said it was evident that the team has room for improvement after its first event of the season.
“We need to get better at chipping, putting and course management,” Redman said.
