Senior captain Lauren Gibbemeyer is making a comeback–earning Co-Big Ten Player of the Week after missing the first half of the season with a wrist injury. Gibbemeyer shares the honor with Penn State’s Blair Brown.
Gibbemeyer notched 11 kills, five digs, and four blocks against Iowa on Oct. 27, picking up 14 kills and 10 blocks–a double-double–against No. 24 Northwestern.
This week’s Big Ten acknowledgement is the fourth for Gibbemeyer, who also collected the award once in 2008 and twice in 2009 as a junior.
Gibbemeyer’s honor is the third for Minnesota this season, with sophomore Tabitha Love and freshman Ashley Wittman previously receiving the accolade. It is the first time the Gophers have had three players named Player of the Week during a season since 2003.
