The Gophers men’s golf team won its second tournament of the 2013-14 season Tuesday with a win at the Del Walker Classic in Long Beach, Calif.
Minnesota seniors Jon Trasamar and Alex Gaugert paced the Gophers with strong outings on the golf course.
Trasamar shot a 4-under par for the tournament and placed fourth in the individual competition. Gaugert finished right behind his teammate and tied for fifth place with a 3-under par.
Minnesota freshman Jose Mendez, sophomore Jon DuToit and freshman Matt Rachey rounded out the scorers for the team.
The Gophers shot an even-par 280 Tuesday afternoon to narrowly edge out Arizona and UC-Santa Barbara, which tied for second place.
Minnesota hasn’t won two tournaments in a single season since 2006-07.
“I think that winning breeds winning,” head coach John Carlson said. “I think that win in the fall carried over into the spring. We really try to outwork people, and I think it paid off.”
The team will look to continue that success at the end of the month in Eugene, Ore.
