Robert Jones , University of Minnesota senior vice president for system academic administration, has withdrawn his name from consideration for the presidency of the University of Hawaii system. Jones was one of two finalists for the job, along with M.R.C. Greenwood , the former provost of the University of California system and chancellor of UC- Santa Cruz. In an e-mail sent to the UniversityâĂ„Ă´s Board of Regents, Executive Team and Faculty Consultative Committee Chair, University President Bob Bruininks said Jones withdrew after discussions with his family. âĂ„ĂşAfter a great deal of deliberation, he and his wife Lynn came to the conclusion that it was not a good time or fit for them,âĂ„Ăą the e-mail said. Bruininks said Jones will continue to be part of the UniversityâĂ„Ă´s leadership. âĂ„ĂşIt is an honor to be considered for such a position and a true testament to RobertâĂ„Ă´s leadership and professionalism,âĂ„Ăą Bruininks said. University of Hawaii Board of Regents Chairman Al Landon said in a short statement that he was disappointed with JonesâĂ„Ă´ decision to withdraw from the race. The University of Hawaii Board of Regents will meet this week to consider how to proceed, the statement said.
