Third baseman Kaitlyn Richardson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday after a weekend in which she hit 6-for-12 to help the Gophers go 4-1 on the weekend. Richardson finished the weekend with six runs scored and four runs batted in, including two RBIs from solo homeruns.
Richardson is leading the Gophers in numerous offensive categories. Her six homeruns and 21 RBIs are both tied for first in the Big Ten. She is now hitting .420 on the season.
Richardson is the second freshman on the Gophers to be named Freshman of the Year by the Big Ten this season; Madie Eckstrom took home the honor last week.
