A man died Thursday evening after being stabbed in Dinkytown.
Minneapolis and University of Minnesota Police responded to a call at 13th Avenue Southeast and University Avenue Southeast before 7:30 p.m., where they found the victim wounded in a car. He died shortly after being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.
Officers arrested a suspect at the scene — who police say knew the victim — and are not looking for any other suspects. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office will release the name of the victim, but neither he nor the suspect are thought by police to be affiliated with the University of Minnesota according to a public safety update sent to students by Interim Vice President for University Services Mike Berthelsen.
“The incident sets a somewhat somber tone as the University begins to gear up for the new school year, but it’s also a good reminder that safety is the responsibility of everyone on campus,” Berthelsen wrote in the notice.
