309 Oak Street SE, Mpls. (612) 331-3134
If your parents are U alumni like mine, chances are they have stories to tell about watching late-night movies at the Oak Street Cinema. For decades, the theater has been the hip venue for students in the know. The Oak Street is the place to go for vintage film fests and recently released art house films. Originally named the Oak in 1916, the theater was remolded into a 400 seat movie theater in 1935. It remained a popular movie house until 1989 when it did a brief stint as a live theater venue, only to play films again in 1995.
