Democratic congressional candidate Angie Craig reiterated the importance of a millennial vote during her visit to campus Tuesday at the University of Minnesota Student Association’s “Voterpalooza.”
“This is an opportunity for millennials — college students in particular — to take control of their own future,” said Craig, who is competing against Republican Jason Lewis to become the first woman elected to Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District.
Craig’s platform includes championing affordable education and creating job opportunities.
“Education has got to be a priority,” she said, adding that the cost of college has skyrocketed since she graduated.
Craig worked as a businesswoman for more than 20 years and was an executive at St. Jude Medical for the last decade. She said her experience helps her think creatively about tackling student debt.
At the event Tuesday, she suggested providing employers with benefits for helping graduates pay off student loans.
“Millennials are obviously the largest demographic now. They are the most educated, the most diverse, the most tolerant,” she said. I’m excited for millennials and young people to really have a strong say in the future of the country and the future of my race for congress.”
Craig and her wife, Cheryl Greene, live in Eagan with their four teenage sons.
