Arthur Peterson, University graduate and lifetime character actor, died Thursday in Los Angeles, Calif. He was 83.
Peterson graduated in 1935 from the University. During a 60-year career in theater, Peterson appeared in numerous stage and broadcast productions. He was probably best known for his role as Dr. Rutledge in the radio version of the daytime serial “Guiding Light.”
“His life was the theater,” said longtime friend Lorraine Ofstie of Columbia Heights.
Peterson also taught drama at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., and was a nationally recognized expert on the works of Robert Frost.
Peterson is survived by his wife Norma, two children, 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
