During her time with the Gophers, senior Katie Dalen has spent most of her time on the mound. But during MinnesotaâÄôs second game with Penn State on Saturday, the now right fielder helped her team to a win in a very different way. Dalen hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, driving in pinch runner Chonquita Jones to give the Gophers a 1-0 win after they dropped game one to Penn State (16-20 overall, 5-7 Big Ten) by the same score. âÄúKatie did a great job at the plate all day and her hard work paid off with two hits, including the game-winner,âÄù co-head coach Lisa Berstein said in a release. But Dalen may not have ever had her opportunity to hit in that run if not for another stellar weekend for senior pitcher Briana Hassett. Hassett pitched both games for the Gophers (22-25, 5-7) on Saturday, striking out 19 in the two games, giving up just the one run in MinnesotaâÄôs loss. Hassett continues to add to her already school record 355 strikeouts on the year. HassettâÄôs win was also her 13th shutout of the season as she pitched her 31st complete game. âÄúBriana has been amazing all season and she is a true leader,âÄù co-head coach Julie Standering said. âÄúHer presence on the mound is imposing for the teams that we face.âÄù
