Gophers recruit Sydney Baldwin was named the 2014 Minnesota Ms. Hockey on Sunday. Baldwin, a defenseman at Minnetonka, is the high school's career leading scorer for a defenseman. Baldwin beat out four others, including two of her future Gophers teammates, for the honor. She is the first defenseman to be given this award since 2002, which is voted on by high school and Division I and III college coaches from Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Three-of-the-last-four last winners of the award currently play for the Gophers. Freshman forward Dani Cameranesi won it last year, sophomore forward Hannah Brandt won it in 2012 and senior forward Bethany Brausen won it in 2010.
