The Minnesota women’s cross country team placed third at the Minnesota-Duluth Pine Hills Invitational Saturday with a final team total of 77.
The fourth-ranked Gophers, who rested its top runners in preparation for the pre-NCAA meet next weekend in Terre Haute, Ind., finished behind St. Benedicts and University of Minnesota-Duluth in the event.
Bulldogs sophomore Liz Palkie took top individual honors at the 6-kilometer event, finishing with a time of 22:54.8.
Gophers’ freshman AnneMarie Boyd topped Minnesota’s crew by crossing the finish line in 12th place. She finished in 24:40.5.
The third-place finish marks the first event this season that the Gophers did not win.
Those on Minnesota’s roster who are not scheduled to participate in the pre-NCAA meet next weekend will be headed to the Tori Neubauer Invitational in West Salem, Wis.

Schwark falls in quaterfinals
Minnesota senior Raoul Schwark couldn’t keep his solid run alive Saturday as the Gophers lone representative at the All-American Tennis Championships in Oklahoma.
After winning two matches on Friday to reach the consolation bracket, Schwark was defeated in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 by Justin Kronaugh of Ohio State.
Schwark fell to 6-2 on the season in the loss.

Gophers post 3-10 mark on Friday in Evanston
The Minnesota women’s tennis team had a good opening day Friday at the Wildcat Invitational in Illinois.
The Gophers won three matches at the tournament as they posted a 2-7 record in singles matches and a 1-3 record in doubles play.
Junior Tijana Koprivica posted a victory after defeating Wisconsin’s Chelsea Nusslock 6-1, 6-2 in straight sets. Danielle Mousseau, and the pair of Mikayla Rogers and Jackie Sperling recorded victories Friday as well.
