Men’s track pair betters NCAA marks

Aaron Buzard and Andy Tilstra of Minnesota’s men’s track and field team each improved their NCAA provisional qualifying marks Saturday at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.

Buzard ran a 46.97 in the 400 meters while Tilstra improved his distance in the weight throw by more than a foot with a mark of 65-4 3/4.

Women’s relay wins

The team of Ladia Albertson-Junkans, Melissa Steele, Mollie Hupp and Emily Brown won the distance medley relay at the Iowa State Classic in a time of 11:35.23.

The time broke the school record in the event, and the 4×400 relay team of Steele, Hupp, Candance Borgen and Kadian Douglas also set a school record, taking third with a time of 3:41.15.

Women’s tennis goes 0-2

Minnesota’s women’s tennis team lost 6-1 to No. 13 North Carolina on Friday and 7-0 to No. 3 Kentucky on Sunday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Nischela Reddy upset the Tar Heels’ Aniela Mojzis, the 26th-ranked player in the nation, 7-5, 6-1 for the Gophers’ only win.

Ticer beats two ranked

Minnesota men’s tennis senior Avery Ticer beat two ranked opponents, but the Gophers lost 4-3 to No. 15 Virginia Commonwealth and 5-2 to No. 44 Wake Forest.
