After a weekend in which she pitched four complete games, earned three wins, threw two shutouts and tossed a no-hitter, Gophers freshman Lacey Middlebrooks was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Middlebrooks pitched a five-inning no-hitter in a rain-shortened game against Eastern Michigan in the Florida Gulf Coast Spring Break Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla., last weekend. In four starts totalling 26 1/3 innings, she struck out 24 batters while allowing just 10 hits, six walks and one earned run.
Middlebrooks won her first three games of the weekend before losing a 1-0, eight-inning contest to Connecticut on Sunday. She pitched her second career shutout and had her first career hit and RBI on a two-out double in the second inning of a 6-0 win over the Huskies on Friday.
Middlebrooks has accounted for all of the Gophers wins through the season’s first three weekends and has a 7-4 overall record.
