The University of Minnesota confirmed Tuesday that Elijah Schwan, a fourth-year Carlson School of Management student, died late last week.
According to a statement from the Carlson School, Schwan was killed in a motor vehicle accident while visiting a friend in Spain. The University said Schwan was not studying abroad at the time of his death, but traveling on his own.
Schwan was active on campus as a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. University spokesperson Steven Henneberry said there is an effort to be “as available as possible” to provide support to students. The Carlson School will offer drop-in counseling sessions on Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Hanson Hall room 2-190.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends and we’re doing what we can to support those folks during this difficult time,” Henneberry said.
