The Monday blues hit the Gophers tennis team hard as senior duo Jack Hamburg and Mathieu Froment both dropped matches in the first round of qualifying play at the Saint Francis Health Systems ITA Men’s All-American Championships.
Hamburg lost his match to North Carolina State’s Robbie Mudge, while Froment lost to Dartmouth product Dovydas
Sakinis.
Hamburg and Froment will get their shot at redemption on Thursday when the two compete in the main doubles draw.
The duo ranks 11th as doubles partners according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and they went 24-5 together last season.
Teammate Leandro Toledo will begin play in the ITAs on Thursday. He will compete in the the main singles draw.
On the women’s side, senior Tereza Brichacova lost her qualifying match at the ITAs on Sunday when she took on No. 93-ranked Natalie Beazant of Rice.
Brichacova won the first set before dropping the next two.
