Cosmopolitan magazine named a University student one of its 50 most eligible bachelors in the nation.
Jansen Sauvageau, a finance senior, will be featured in the November issue of the magazine – the largest of the year.
“Honestly, I’ve never had so much attention drawn to me,” he said. “It’s kind of overwhelming.”
Sauvageau’s mother, Vicki Sauvageau said she sent his pictures into the magazine in late April after paging through an issue where she saw a “2004 Stud Search” advertisement that called for sexy, single men.
“I thought, ‘What the heck!’ ” Vicki Sauvageau said.
“I just did it as a fun thing, and we didn’t think anything would happen,” she said.
Jansen Sauvageau received a call from the magazine in June saying it would like to include him in the eligible bachelor edition. By the end of the month, he flew to New York state for a photo shoot in the Hamptons.
Jansen Sauvageau underwent three hours of hair and makeup preperation for the 20-minute photo shoot. He said he does not know which picture the magazine chose to use, but he did see some of his test shots.
“I don’t think it looks like me,” he said. “That’s not what I would do with myself.”
Jansen Sauvageau said the photos are a little risque. He said he wore a button-down shirt tied behind his back, exposing his chest.
“My mom’s like, ‘I don’t know if I want my friends buying this,’ ” Jansen Sauvageau said.
Vicki Sauvageau said, “It’s my son, and I really don’t want his body parts hanging out.”
The magazine chose bachelors from every state in the nation. Jansen Sauvageau is the bachelor for North Dakota, where he is from.
“I’m a little boy from Fargo (N.D.), going big in life,” Jansen Sauvageau said.
“I’m going big at least for 24 hours,” he added.
Jansen Sauvageau will fly out to New York again today to do publicity for the magazine. He will be on “Entertainment Tonight” this evening, and the “Today Show” and “Good Day Live” Tuesday.
An after-party will be held for the models following the television appearances.
“The Olsen twins are supposed to be there,” Jansen Sauvageau said.
He also said he met Paris Hilton during his photo shoot.
“She is dumber than a box of rocks,” he said. “I don’t know how she functions.”
He holds a new appreciation for the life of a celebrity, he said.
“You’re up at the butt-crack of dawn and you’re in bed early,” he said.
Jansen Sauvageau has had previous experience with modeling, he said. He modeled for Aveda and the Fresh Face Showcase fashion show.
He said he hopes to pursue a career in modeling after he finishes his degree.
“It’s meeting new people, making connections and networking,” he said. “And it’s fun.”
Vicki Sauvageau said she could not be more proud of her son.
“He’s always been a great son and a really great brother,” she said.
“He works hard, and he’s just an all-around good guy.”
The magazine will be available on newsstands Oct. 12.
