Seven Gophers captured individual crowns while four more shared championships at the event.
Such dominance has become well known for Minnesota at the Bison Open. In the 38-year history of the event, Minnesota has earned 159 individual champions.
Saturday was no different. Gophers senior Manuel Rivera said earlier this week he wanted his team to win all 10 weight classes as a way of showing how powerful the defending NCAA champions could be this season.
They came close, and in the process Minnesota might’ve found a front-runner who will take the place of All-American and NCAA champion heavyweight Cole Konrad.
Redshirt freshman Joe Nord went 3-0 in the heavyweight division including two falls en route to the title.
The Gophers will compete in another open meet next weekend in Omaha, Neb., for the Kaufman-Brand Open. They’ll begin dual meet action Nov. 24 at the first-ever Northern Quad invitational in Rochester.
