Mesa Pizza in Stadium Village permanently closed Tuesday, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. 

Founded in 2006, Mesa Pizza also has locations in Dinkytown and Uptown, which will stay open. The pizza chain is known for its late night hours and offers of pizza by the slice with specialty toppings, which set it apart from other names. 

“We just never had the sales volume there that we needed,” said Mesa Pizza Owner David Hathaway. “Stadium had alright lunches, but there’s really nothing going on at night. There aren’t bar rushes or a lot of people out at night.” 

The Stadium Village closure follows the appearance of new pizza places in Stadium Village.

In November 2015, Blaze Pizza opened below the WaHu Apartments on Washington Avenue. Also in the area is Punch Neapolitan Pizza, located on Washington Avenue Southeast, which has been open since 2009. 

According to a Facebook post on Mesa’s page, Mesa Pizza Stadium Village’s waffle fries will now be available at the Dinkytown location following the closure.
