Hundreds of people gathered outside Morrill Hall Friday to show support for two students who had occupied the building in February and are facing student conduct charges.
Earlier this year, members of the informal student group Whose Diversity? occupied President Eric Kaler’s office in Morrill Hall, demanding the administration increase diversity and accountability.
After the occupation, several students were arrested and charged with student misconduct including David Melendez and Rahsaan Mahadeo.
The rally was organized to allow people to show their support and stand in solidarity with both Melendez and Mahadeo.
Professors Naomi Scheman and John Wright, along with speakers from the Black Student Union and Students for a Democratic Society, spoke at the rally.
Closed hearings for the charges were held Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Mahadeo and Melendez gave their testimonies at 4:30 p.m.
