Fourteen of Minnesota’s varsity athletics teams were given Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Awards on Wednesday, the most of any Big Ten school.
The APR attempts to track each team’s academic success based on eligibility, retention and graduation rates. The scores are based on the 2011-12 through 2014-15 academic years.
Public Recognition Awards are given to teams in the top 10 percent in their respective sport.
The Minnesota teams recognized include the baseball, football, men’s hockey, men’s tennis, softball, women’s track, women’s swimming and diving, and volleyball teams, in addition to men’s and women’s cross country, golf and gymnastics.
Football, men’s golf and men’s hockey were given Public Recognition Awards for the first time.
The Gophers’ total number of honorees is fourth among FBS schools, behind only Stanford, Notre Dame and Duke.
Minnesota also had 14 honorees last year, up from 12 in the 2012-13 academic year.
