The womenâÄôs swimming and diving team notched their third straight win Saturday âÄî and they did it without the help of their top swimmers. The Gophers chose to rest their best swimmers during their dual meet against Iowa State, giving their younger swimmers an opportunity to compete early on in the season. The team won nine straight events Saturday, securing a comfortable 157-129 victory. They were the only Gophers team to win on the weekend. âÄúWe are fortunate because we have a really strong team, a really deep team,âÄù head coach Kelly Kremer said. âÄúThe team really stepped up.âÄù Freshman Margaret Keefer claimed her third straight win in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 283.80 âÄî her lowest so far this season. Junior Melissa Nelson notched a big win for the Gophers in the 100 backstroke âÄî a season-best âÄî grabbing another first-place finish the 200-yard medley relay. âÄúItâÄôs always fun when some swimmers pick up big wins,âÄù Kremer said. The Gophers have two weeks to rest before defending their undefeated record, hosting Wisconsin on Oct. 29.
