Badgers upset No. 13 Michigan

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Paul Grant scored 19 points, including a key basket in the final minute, to lead Wisconsin over No. 13 Michigan, 58-53, Thursday night.
The Badgers’ victory evens out their Big Ten record at 5-5 and puts Michigan three games behind the Gophers at 6-4.
Michigan lost its leading scorer, Maurice Taylor, with 12:45 left in the first half when he was hit in the face by an elbow from Grant. Taylor crumpled to the floor and was taken to the locker room with an apparent broken nose. He did not return to the game.
Grant gave the Badgers (12-7 overall) a 39-38 lead on a rebound basket with 7:30 remaining, touching off an 11-2 run.
Michigan (16-6) responded with a six-point burst, cutting its deficit to 48-46.
After Wisconsin’s Ty Calderwood and Michigan’s Louis Bullock each had baskets, a free throw by Sean Daugherty gave the Badgers a 51-48 edge with 1:02 remaining.
Grant then made a layup with 48 seconds left for a 53-48 lead. The Badgers preserved the victory by making five of six free throws late in the game.
David Burkemper made two foul shots with nine seconds left after Bullock pulled the Wolverines within 56-53 on a 3-point basket.
Daugherty had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Badgers. Calderwood added 13 points.
Bullock scored 20 points, 15 in the second half.
The Wolverines shot just 33 percent from the field in the first half as Wisconsin took a 23-22 lead.
The Gophers play at Michigan on Feb. 26 and at Wisconsin for the final game of Minnesota’s Big Ten schedule on Mar. 8.
